The Beginning
Glendale Baptist Church was organized in 1871 or 1872. There was no appointed pastor until 1883, when Elder William Bunch agreed to serve as pastor. At that time, it was agreed to have the regular meetings on the first Saturday before the first Sunday in each month with Sunday School services conducted through the warm season of the year. The place of worship, at that time, was a small one room school used by other churches also. They called themselves the Union United Baptist Church. The Articles of Faith of the Old Philadelphia Baptist Association were adopted.
In November 1894, the Glendale meeting house burned and it was decided in March of 1895 to build a strictly Baptist church building separate from all schools and other churches. The entire church voted in May of 1895 that the church would be call the Missionary Baptist Meeting House at Glendale, however, in July 1896, the church was received into the Concord Baptist Association. Glendale was Southern Baptist prior to that and was associated with the Buckner Baptist Association.
